Maryam Farsi (Academic Consultant & Editorial Board Member)

Maryam Farsi (Academic Consultant & Editorial Board Member)

Maryam Farsi, a dedicated researcher in archaeology and anthropology, has devoted years to exploring the intricate connections between material culture, cognition, and human behavior. Her academic journey commenced with a pioneering research project delving into the interplay of mental processes and improvisation in hand-woven rug creation, leading to the development of a groundbreaking theoretical framework that reshaped the field of carpet studies.
This transformative experience ignited Maryam's interest in archaeology from various methodological perspectives, intertwined with philosophy, evolutionary psychology, and neuroscience. Subsequently, she has honed her focus on evolutionary cognition and art creation, currently pursuing a second master's degree in this specialized domain. Her thesis project, "Art Styles as Memory: Study of Gene-Culture Coevolution of Literate and Illiterate Societies (Case Study: Visual Arts in Susa and Godin Tepe)," represents an interdisciplinary initiative aiming to illuminate the complexities of human Biocultural Archaeology, drawing inspiration from the theory of Gene-Culture.
Beyond academia, Maryam's passion for archaeology and anthropology transcends theoretical realms. She deeply values tangible and intangible heritage, embracing travel as a means to immerse herself in diverse cultures and communities. Through her research, she endeavors to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation, particularly in practical settings like Persepolis.
Maryam's diverse academic background and interdisciplinary research pursuits position her as a valuable asset to any team or project dedicated to advancing heritage, art, and innovation within the realm of evolutionary cognitive archaeology and anthropology.
In addition to her scholarly endeavors, Maryam is deeply committed to volunteer work and community service. Having served as a teacher in the underprivileged province of Sistan & Balouchestan in Iran, she dedicated a month to sharing her knowledge and expertise with students and community members, striving to create a positive impact on their lives.
Maryam is a native Persian speaker, fluent in English, and possesses elementary proficiency in French and Greek in both writing and reading.

She joined Indo Archaeology in May 2024 as a Cognitive Archaeologist and Editorial Board Member, and from January 2025 onwards, she held the position of Academic Consultant and Editorial Board Member.
